Check out the ASPCA Day event at Union Square today from 4-8 pm.
Keep your eyes peeled for people wearing orange and show your support for the organization that takes a bite out of animal cruelty by sporting some orange yourself!
Even the Empire State Building will be wearing their support for the ASPCA tonight.

Kya’s Collars are fun and perfect for that beer connoisseur or playful dog you know and love. We met up with Heidi on the street in Soho and she says many of her customers are tourists. Maybe you have a local dog that would look great in one of her collars? Check out her online shop or find her booth on a warm day in Soho!

Do you use Flickr.com for photos? We love it because you can categorize anything with tags there. If you want NYCityPets to find photos of your pets, just tag them with nycitypets! It is also helpful to tag with your zip code too, so we can figure out just where you are in NYC.

This special guy is getting a second post. Why? Because he doesn’t deserve to be stuck, sleeping in a kennel. We play with him every day and can tell you that this happy dog just wants a quiet, warm bed and some heavy duty toys to catch. Oh, and a great person to play with him too!
Mr. T has his own place on Petfinder, Craigslist, Flickr, and over at Kya’s Collars (see adoptions). We love him and have taught him to sit and ask for his toys, to lay down, and to enjoy a good belly rubbing. If you want to meet him, let us know.
UPDATE: T-Bone is now living a wonderful second life as Hank! He plays upstate in the grass on the weekends and sleeps in a warm, soft bed. Many people who know and love him could not be any happier with how things turned out for Hank.

News reports first stated canned foods (chunks + gravy styles) were the only affected foods, but now the list continues to grow as Del Monte lists new recalled snacks and foods. Even a dry food, one not manufactured at Menu Foods, Hills Prescription m/d for cats has been recalled.
This writer can tell you from experience, talking all day, every day, with pet owners, that people are freaked out. One person has now proclaimed he’ll no longer feed his bull mastiff manufactured dog foods and will only give sliced deli turkey (packaged) and cottage cheese until a better food source can be determined by his veterinarian. Yes, his dog is smiling and eating happily. But how long will this unbalanced diet continue? When will food manufacturers stop giving this pet owner reasons to freak out?
New York Tails magazine is calling for people to submit letters and photos of their pets (via snail mail) so they can send a huge mailing to the FDA that says: “Hey, we care about our pets and want you to do a better job protecting them from harmful foods.” Visit the link for the form letter.
Don’t forget to keep an eye on that Menu Foods list, here. Also, Brad over at Poop City has been covering the recall in detail.
